Forget SEO, Focus On UX!

Web masters around the world all reading blogs, "studying" and all trying to learn exactly what google wants to see.
We use cruft free urls, have keywords in the url, use hyphens rather than underscores, concentrate on making the few words in the page title reflect what the users will want to see as much as possible, all forgetting the golden rule "Content is King".

But is that enough? focusing on SEO is good. Focusing on "Content is King" is even better but what about the users experience? No matter how good the content is or how far up the google page you are, if people find it hard to view, read, understand, navigate or otherwise use your website they'll settle for less elsewhere.

UE or UX (user experience) is a new "Buzzword" flying around where web masters realising that all concentrating on SEO leaves us with sites nobody wants to use are starting to concentrate on doing what they started the site in the first place to do. Provide users with some kind of content...

Just recently my move to this transparent glass design has proved a wise one. The new quick thread start buttons on the home page is also good for UE...
I've focused on making this site as pleasing on the eyes as it can be, as easy to navigate as it can be and not forgetting, trying to provide some of the best content I can come up with. (Hence this ramble)...

Looking into the future, if the UE buzz takes hold. Net will be a better place, no longer will we be searching for something in google and finding a very nice URL, very appealing title and good description, clicking the link and being let down by the site it takes you to.

The basics of UE are to ensure users of the site can quickly find the resources they are there for, make sure a search function easily catches the eye, keeping ads unobtrusive and making page loading times as quick as possible.

The latter, this site excels at, view Ultra Fast! thread.
Believe it or not, 90% of the graphics on this site are the same 1px image. When this site loads, all the glassy background is simply a very clever use of the same tiny 1 Pixel image. making loading times very fast even on slow connections.

All that is not to say the Search Engine Optimization isn't important, yet with everybody focusing on that, we're best being more "white hat" web masters and simply letting google do what it does best and spending our time sticking to that all important golden rule...
