How do i enable more than 8 characters as a password?

You are using The Perl Crypt () function, it't not very secure and it will limit your passwords to 8 chars.
You need to enable MD5 encryption and pray that your server supports that. do that in admin centre, along the left hand side near the bottom.
Note: MD5 is one way irreversible encryption, its much more secure but it IS one way! I cannot be reversed. Backup your forum and get ready to re-upload the Code, Members and prefs folders if the worst happens.
