I remember being asked by ThRaInPa a while ago about devices which allow you to plug your USB external Hard Disk drives into your network, making them available all over your home, via wifi, wire anything, anywhere.
At the time I struggled to find such devices having never needed them. I've got a Gigabit ethernet media server anyway, which accepts extra drives via usb.
I found the device from a newsletter from a computer warehouse local to my house.

At only 20 quid, it's worth it to place your USB drive on your network.
It won't work with a USB hub so don't even think it.
Plugging the Ethernet end into a switch would allow you to put many of these devices on your network. Or using up any available RJ45 connections your router has to offer will suvice also.
