LAN IP ISSUE - URGENT!
« on: May 02, 2008, 02:20:34 AM »

Im trying to host an online game adn it needs my 'LAN IP' and 'LAN SUBNET'.

I have estabolished that my LAN SUBNET is  255.0.0.0

But my LAN IP... every site, every program, and even my router says my IP (where my LAN ip should be) is my WAN IP! As if its connected this particular device directly to the WAN IP.

My router has that ability by the way.

But i have it turned off, ive tried forwading the right ports and still nothing!

Im sure its something to do with this dodgy LAN IP issue.

What can you suggest?

Im no computer genius. Although I would suggest trying to repair the connection- only if that's possible.

Good luck.

Your WAN I.P can be found at the bottom of this message, your LAN I.P can be found via running CMD from the run dialog box, Typing ipconfig /all into the black box that appears.

El3utterfly made a brilliant suggestion though, A lot of LAN I.P, subnet, gateway and DHCP issues can be fixed by going to the connection with the issue in network connections, right clicking the network adapter and clicking "diagnose" if in vista or click properties and there will be a "repair" button somewhere in the properties dialog, maybe on a "support" tab.

If you still have trouble, go to the status box for the connection, take a screen shot of that and then click details... screen shot the details box and post both pictures here.

Good Luck!

Your I.P Address
<iframe src="http://whatismyip.org" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="width: 135px; height: 30px"></iframe>
This will show YOUR WAN I.P
That's the I.P of Anyone reading this post
it is different for everyone.

Damnit in both forums no one seems to understand:

LAN IP does NOT show up even in IPCONFIG /ALL

Here is a screenshot:

No one seems to understand in "both" forums because your asking a question that isnt possible, you always have an i.p address. That screenshot shows your I.P address as 79.67.36.102 and DHCP is enabled, What is your issue?

because in both forums people are resorting to 'ipconfig /all' like it will 100% give me my local IP.

The screen shot prooves my point that it does, in fact, not.

WHOA, You have a big issue. Your LAN i.p IS the reported 79.67.36.102 and it is also your Wan i.p, you should have a different address for that. this sounds like a router misconfiguration, is NAT turned off?

if you look at mine below, i have turned off ipv6 btw, not needed. but everything else remains the same, My lan i.p is 192.168.1.88 yours should be similar, so its on the same network subnet as your router which is usually 192.168.1.1. Somehow your WAN i.p is also your lan ip. this means your router is assigning the same ip it is given by your isp to your computer. You need to check your settings or reset your router, while the computer is off.

right click the connection and click properties. click ipv4 then properties, set both settings to "obtain automatically..." if this doesn't work set the bottom two boxes to your routers i.p and your default gateway to your routers i.p. set your default ip to an ip similar to your routers, so if your router is 192.168.1.1 set your i.p to 192.168.1.64 your subnet will be calculated automatically when you click that field.

The "obtain automatically" option is preferable but this requires the DHCP server to be enabled in your router.

Ive tried a few things and still the same issue, currently i dont mind it now, it jsut means i dont have to port-forward.

It just seems to associate the particular device with the WAN IP rather than assigning it to its own local IP...

Odd.

Sounds to me like you have a very bad router. Or one that is highly mis-configured. Hope you work it out.

:-/....unbelievable...lol WANIP?! and your LANIP is the same? OMG. lol bit weird but its always something causing it. Maybe you have them both going into the same router causing them to have identical Ip's. weird tho. :o

That problem sounded like NAT (Network Address Translation) was turned off...

That's the thing that takes your internal I.P and converts it to your WAN I.P on the "outside" of the router..
With that off, There is no translation and the I.Ps will be the same.

With that though, Only one PC should be able to use the net at any one time...

A strange problem, I agree.  :-/
