Windows 7 Sooner Than We Expected? No Chance.

Actually We Are Not Getting Windows 7 Any Time In The Near Future...
See articleWindows 7 Sooner Than We Expect? After I found out three days ago, rumors that we might be getting Windows 7 sooner than we'd all expect I rushed my little socks off to get the news out here
See Article, but today three days later after a formal Q & A session with "The Windows Vista Club" *holds head in hands* they revealed news of Windows 7 being in the planning stages at the moment.
They reckon it will take 2-3 years to develop meaning it will be closer to 2010 before we see vista's successor.
Personally I think mid-late '09 would be more accurate...
So We're Stuck With Vista Then... Maybe not such a bad thing.
After Vista's barrage of real bad press Microsoft have been listening to users feedback more than ever before.
This means with the release of Service Pack 1 users can expect a plethora of updates including a new kernel.
The new kernel could be one of the biggest "goodies" SP1 brings, rumored a while ago that the Vista core will be replaced with that of Windows Server 2008, throughout the Service Pack 1 beta releases the new kernel hasn't been mentioned very much.
First I thought this means it's been left out, but after some research revealed the core has in fact been replaced in the Service pack.
Microsoft didn't mention it in all the press releases because they didn't want to spark more worries of new issues with the replaced core.
If you have Vista or Vista SP1 or your not sure hit the windows key on your keyboard and press "R" or click run in the start menu if it's already there, in the box that appears type "winver" and hit enter, this provides you with a brief description of the vista version you are running.
My Personal Thoughts
I had mixed feelings of vista's replacement being released so quickly
after vista's launch because this renders vista a bit of a pre windows 7 feedback and testing platform for Microsoft. I was a little worried about why it took over 6 years for XP's replacement to be released but at least that's reassuring that there will be a lot of new features and technology implemented with the new release. If we have to wait until 2011 for vista's replacement then that indicates the same again, lots of new features and technology, a worthwhile expenditure. For me anyway
