What's the best browser to get?

Hi there. I was wondering what is the best browser to get in terms of...everything overall.
I'm currently using FF3. Chrome is supposed to be faster. But I think that FF3 might be better, Because of it being user friendly. Which one is the overall best?

Firefox. No competition. Because Chrome isn't long out of alpha. They haven't released chrome for people to use, they released it for people to test, It's in BETA.

So ruling the browser out that doesn't yet exist. Then Firefox is best overall.. Closely followed by Opera, then safari. But safari is an acquired taste..

You should make sure you've got the "web developer tool bar" installed. It really rocks.

i don't really think there is a "best", it's really more personal preference.  I primarily use firefox because it has a lot of nifty plugins that i use quite frequently.  i also use internet explorer sometimes, but that's mainly for testing purposes or for when i come around a poorly written site that blocks mozilla users (believe it or not, these are still around).  I also use chrome for testing purposes, and exclusively for my gmail.

heck, i even use opera.  well, opera mini... i find it second only to netfront when it comes to browsing the web on my phone/pda.

haha, yeah, I have them all installed too, For testing and stuff.. safari, opera, firefox, minefield (firefox nightlies/betas) chrome and of course IE is installed anyway.. although I really hate IE with a passion... I'd really use the net a lot less if that was the only browser option...

Even though it may not be fair to say "best" browser, although firefox is usually considered "best overall", I think we can agree which is the worst!  ;D

since you can't remove IE, Everyone is stuck with it, Which is kinda stupid, Microsoft should buy a leading browser and add them to new builds.

actally, in recent versions of XP (sp1 and above, i believe) it is possible to uninstall internet explorer through the add/remove programs applet in the control panel.

That would be awesome, But I think you should just keep it. Because in some browsers pages don't look the way they should, Go to IE its restored. Pages are built to look right on a certain browser, your best bet is to install the leading ones. Then every site you go to will turn out good, IF it isn't switch browsers...

there is a plugin for firefox that will allow you to open a site in an IE tab, although i'm not sure if this actually requires IE to be installed seperately for it to work.

Buy a leading browser? (think) so firefox (open source, not for sale) Safari (lets not even go there.) Opera (Is the companies only software, would leave the company with nothing to do...) Netscape (was Microsoft's only and biggest rival many years ago.. don't think that would happen) and finally.. Chrome (Google wouldn't sell it)
So other than those points  ;D  they already have a browser they seem to be quite happy with...

There are things you can do to remove it though, there is software which will replace all portions of IE with FF. But that's not necessary, Just delete all short cuts to it, Then set default program for internet to firefox. Go to the internet explorer folder then create a short cut which points to firefox and name it iexplorer.exe. any program which tries to start IE should start FF instead... If my untested idea actually works that is...  ;D

switch browsers
WTF is one of those?

no they're built to look the same in every browser. In some cases they'll look slightly different in one browser to another because some things aren't supported by all browsers or are rendered differently... Like the collapsed borders on this forum, IE doesn't support that..

what i meant was the site builder built it to look right on the browser he was using. Not knowing it could look wrong on others...

Web Masters usually test their work in all the common browsers, That's why I have most of the common ones installed.. Even though I only use Firefox for everyday browsing...

I have

  • Firefox
  • Chrome
  • Opera
  • Netscape
  • Safari
  • Internet Explorer

Installed...

But for testing pages and new work is good in all browsers, usually just Firefox and IE will do... No need to test in them all, that's overkill..

There is http://browsershots.org/ available to test your pages in many many many different browsers on different platforms.. That can be useful if you don't fancy having more than your favourite browser installed...  ;)
