Do Black Websites Save Energy

I've seen a lot of people talking about this, and with Blackle.com being a black version of google, Completely unaffiliated from google.
They, and others, claim to be saving energy by using a black page.

They right, in a way, but getting more and more wrong by the day.

This is because of the way LCD screens and CRT screens differ in technology.
CRT screens use more energy the light they're outputting, So a white page will use more energy than a dark page.

LCD screens on the other hand, have a back light, which is permanently on, filters reduce the amount of light allowed through to the screen to show pale or dark colours, So with LCD screens, This theory isn't true, It makes absolutely no difference whether a page is beaming white, or dark. An LCD screen will use the same power for both.

More and more people are adopting the better, crisper, now faster image display technology, LCD. Abandoning their old CRTs and slowly making the claims of the "dark websites reduce energy consumption" incorrect.

But don't hate LCDs, Although these sites are trying to do a good thing, as for the people who use CRT screens, They are saving energy. But even though LCDs use the same power regardless of a white or black page, They use much less power all round. Being more efficient than CRTs.

Hmm.... To clarify the first Post, Black websites only save energy on big ol' CRT screens. On modern LCD TFT Screens they save absolutely nothing. Depends what your using...
