AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) used to hold the crown in the CPU enthusiast market not so long ago before losing out to Intel with the release of the Core 2 Duo.
Since then, AMD has released various chips, including the Phenom x3, Which unsurprisingly, wasn't a huge hit when compared with Intel's Core2Quad chips.
In recent news, The CPU maker is preparing the launch of a very powerful CPU aimed primarily at the server market, where AMD originally dominated while Intel were concentrating on our home PCs more intently.
The CPU, named "Deneb" (they must be reaching into a hat full of scrabble pieces for these names now...) is said to be able to reach clock speeds of 4.3GHz or higher with excellent cooling, while easily managing 3.6GHz on stock cooling. The CPU comes in the newer faster 45nm specification. The chip's claim to fame above any Intel offering is the much lower power consumption and relatively lesser heat output than Intel's equivalent CPUs today.
Prices and further specifications aren't available as yet, But the CPU is said to already be in mass production and will be hitting shelves soon.
